editing styles

Every session is different, and the way your photos are edited plays a big part in how the final gallery feels. From rich color and natural skin tones to darker cinematic images or something softer and brighter, your editing style helps shape the overall look of your photos.

I offer three primary editing styles: Vivid, Cinematic, Dark/Moody, and Light & Airy.

A few of my favorites

Vivid

Colorful, natural, and full of life.

Vivid is my most versatile editing style. It keeps colors rich and vibrant while maintaining natural skin tones and plenty of detail throughout the image.

Greens stay green, skies retain their color, sunsets can feel bold and dramatic, and the overall image has a clean, polished look without feeling overly edited.

This style works especially well for outdoor sessions, colorful locations, golden hour, beaches, parks, city environments, and anywhere the natural colors of the scene are part of what makes the location special.

Best for:

Natural color, sunsets, greenery, colorful outfits, beaches, outdoor sessions, and couples who want their photos to feel bright and alive without looking overly stylized.

Cinematic & Moody

Rich, dramatic, and atmospheric.

Cinematic & Moody takes a more stylized approach, using deeper shadows, richer tones, controlled highlights, and cinematic color to give the images a more dramatic feel.

Rather than focusing on bright colors, this style is more about atmosphere. Light, texture, movement, and the environment become a larger part of the image, creating photographs that can feel intimate, emotional, and a little more like still frames from a film.

It works particularly well around sunset, in darker environments, downtown locations, wooded areas, overcast weather, and locations with interesting architecture or directional light.

Best for:

Couples looking for something dramatic, romantic, earthy, cinematic, or a little different from traditional bright photography.

Light & Airy

Soft, bright, and romantic.

Light & Airy creates a softer and more delicate look with brighter exposures, gentle colors, softer contrast, and an overall clean feel.

This style works especially well with natural light, neutral or pastel clothing, open spaces, beaches, fields, gardens, and locations with simple backgrounds.

Because the style intentionally favors brighter highlights and softer colors, skies and sunsets may appear lighter and less dramatic than they would with Vivid or Cinematic & Moody editing.

Best for:

Soft natural light, neutral colors, pastel outfits, beaches, open fields, romantic sessions, and couples who prefer a bright and timeless look.

Choosing Your Style

Editing isn't something that only happens after your session.

The style you choose can influence how I photograph the session itself — including the locations we use, the direction of the light, exposure, backgrounds, and even recommendations for wardrobe and timing.

That's why it's helpful to choose the overall look you're drawn to before we shoot.

Can We Mix Editing Styles?

For most sessions, I recommend choosing one primary editing style so your final gallery feels consistent from beginning to end.

There may naturally be some variation depending on the lighting and environment, but the overall color and mood of the gallery will follow the style you selected.

What If I'm Not Sure Which One to Choose?

That's completely fine.

Send me a few photos you love, tell me what kind of atmosphere you're imagining, or describe the look you're going for. I can help determine which editing style fits your session, location, outfits, and overall vision best.

And if you're still unsure, Vivid is the most versatile option and works beautifully in almost any environment.
