The
oaken approach
At OAKEN, we photograph weddings with a focus on the people, the energy, and everything that makes the day yours.
From planning through the wedding day, we keep things easy, organized, and comfortable.
The journey
1. Fundamentals
It starts with the basics. Reach out with your date, location if you have one, and the kind of coverage you are looking for. I’ll confirm availability and learn a little more about vision. If the date is open, we can move forward from there with securing your date.
2. Choosing Your Coverage
Not every wedding or session needs the same amount of coverage, and I don't want you paying for something you don't need.
We’ll look at things like:
- the size of the wedding
- your venue or venues
- how long the day will run
- whether you want getting ready coverage
- first look or no first look
- ceremony and reception timing
- whether you want photography, cinema, or both
- anything else that matters to you
The goal is to find the collection that fits your wedding naturally. Not every couple needs the same thing, and that is completely fine.
3. Making it Official
Once everything feels right, I’ll send over the booking details.
To reserve your date, we'll need:
- A signed contract
- The required retainer
Once both are complete, your date is officially on my calendar. You’ll also receive your invoice and payment schedule, so everything is clear from the start.
4. Your Vision
This is where we start getting into the visual side of your wedding through a Mood Board. I want to understand what you are drawn to, what you already have planned, and what you want the photographs to feel like when you look back at them.
We can build a mood board together using things like:
- saved Instagram posts
- screenshots
- color ideas
- lighting references
- outfits
- poses or movement you like
- details from your venue
- anything else that catches your eye
The mood board helps me understand your taste and the direction you are naturally drawn toward.
Maybe you like darker interiors, direct flash, clean portraits, more candid images, dramatic architecture, or something completely different. All of that gives me a better idea of how to approach your wedding.
We can also talk through your engagement session here, including location, wardrobe, time of day, and the general direction you want to take with it.
5. The Details
As your wedding gets closer, we’ll start filling in the practical pieces.
We’ll go over things like:
- final locations
- ceremony and reception times
- travel between venues
- getting ready locations
- family photo groupings
- wedding party information
- special traditions
- important people
- any moments you especially want photographed
This is also where you can tell me about things that might not be obvious on a timeline. Maybe there is a grandparent you want extra photos with, a detail with personal meaning, a surprise planned during the reception, or someone traveling a long way to be there. We'll make sure to build a list of "MUST HAVE" photos.
6. The "Must Have" Items
As I mentioned in the previous section, we’ll work together through the parts of the timeline that involve photography. The photos, people, and moments that are important to you
That might include:
- getting ready
- detail photos
- first look
- ceremony
- family photos
- wedding party photos
- portraits
- cocktail hour
- reception events
- sunset photos
- evening portraits
My goal isn't to turn your wedding into one long photoshoot. Its to make sure there is enough room for the photos you want without constantly pulling you away from the people you invited to celebrate with you
If during your wedding day, the timeline feels rushed, I'll make sure to work together with you and your husband to keep us from missing those valuable moments
7. The Final Check-In
Before the wedding, we’ll go through everything one final time.
We’ll confirm the timeline, locations, family photo/"Must Haves" list, any special requests, and anything that has changed since we last talked.
By this point, there should not be much left for you to think about when it comes to photography. You should be able to show up and enjoy your wedding knowing I already know where I need to be and what matters to you.
8. Your Wedding Day
When the wedding day arrives, you do not need to manage the photography.
I want you to enjoy your day and allow me to worry about capturing all the little details.
There will be times when we intentionally create a photograph. There will also be plenty of times when the best thing I can do is stay out of the way and pay attention.
You should be able to spend time with your partner, your family, and your friends without feeling like the camera is constantly interrupting the day.
9. Post Wedding
Once the wedding is over, I go through everything that was photographed and begin building the final gallery.
I select the strongest images, edit them individually, and make sure the full collection feels consistent from beginning to end.
If your collection includes sneak peeks, those are delivered first so you have something to enjoy while the full gallery is going through post-processing.
When everything is ready, your photographs are delivered through a private online gallery.
You can:
- view the full wedding
- download your images
- save your favorites
- share them with family and friends
- begin selecting images for an album, if included in your selected service package (Collection).
The gallery is meant to be easy to use and easy to come back to.
